In the spirit of the Children’s day celebration yesterday, we specially celebrate these young ladies (Anne Essien, Kenechukwu Okafor, and Mary Essien) for making us all proud at the Conrad Challenge Innovation Summit held at Kennedy Space Center between 23 – 26 April 2019.

Meet the girls here

They emerged the overall winner in the 2018-2019 Conrad Challenge for Nigeria summit which held between 17-20 January 2019 in Lagos.

The Conrad Challenge is an annual innovation challenge designed for students within the ages of 13 – 18 years to apply Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to solve real-world problems around them. Founded by Nancy Conrad, wife of late NASA astronaut Charles ‘Pete’ Conrad to continue his legacy of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The challenge was extended to Nigeria in 2017 when the students from Whitesands secondary school were signed up and went ahead to emerge the overall winner from the Smoke-Free World Category. The first National competition was held in 2018 where Team Innovation from Pegasus Schools, Eket, Akwa Ibom state emerged the overall winner at the National Summit.

The all-girls team represented Nigeria at the International Innovation summit held in April at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. They have each been awarded $60,000 undergraduate scholarship to study at Clarkson University in New York City, United States of America.

Happy Children’s day to you Ladies! You are an inspiration to all children and we wish you the best!
