On the 13th of April 2018, Techpoint kicked off its inaugural in-house community event called Pitch Friday, originally as a way for startup founders to burn off steam.
Over the months, Pitch Friday grew to become a credible platform for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs alike to showcase ideas and projects they are working on to the world. Better still, the Pitch Friday journey became even more remarkable as the year went by.
A total of 114 businesses registered interest to pitch at Pitch Friday. Thirty-four had the opportunity to pitch on stage, of which 23 were existing businesses, 5 were in developmental stages and 6 were in the ideation phase.
We recall introducing an SME clinic in the month of July to make things a whole lot better. We've since had associates from Babalakin & co law firm and EchoVC fund join us. In the month of September, Pitch Friday then debuted in Ghana, coincidentally Techpoint’s first official event outside of the shores of the country.
Pitch Friday couldn't have had a better year, ending with an end of year get-together in December 2018, which brought together all the alumni.
Now it's 2019, and while Pitch Friday couldn't hold in January due to hectic planning of Techpoint Build, we are happy to announce nonetheless that the first Pitch Friday for the year will be happening this week.
Fun Fact: The first runner up for Pitch Storm 2019, Foodlocker, is a Pitch Friday alumni and will be presenting alongside winner, Estate Intel, on Thursday to the Lagos Angel Network (LAN).
We hope that this would be a nudge for a startupper out there.
To further the good works with Pitch Friday, we are officially using this opportunity to welcome as many angel investors as possible to the community. We believe the startup space will be better if opportunities meet potentials, so join us on this journey.
