Startup Profile: Speaking Cards — deliver personalised audio messages through cards

by | Feb 13, 2017

As the name suggests, Speaking Cards literally gives a voice to printed paper products by embedding them with programmed electronic chips.

Launched in February this year, Speaking Cards is a subsidiary of Vocal Circuits Limited, which was founded in 2013 by Tunde Ademuyiwa.

Initially, the parent company focused on corporate clients; building mobile money marketing tools for banks, political campaign tools and health awareness speaking cards targeted at the illiterate, among other products. However, they saw the need to expand to a wider audience via a ‘web-to-print-and-audio’ platform that offers personalised retail services to clients.

How it works

Via the website, users can choose from available card templates and personalise them by creating/selecting their own audio — be it music, jingle or personal voice notes. Delivery is within 24 hours. There is also an option for a free pickup.

The prospect of having personalised ‘speaking cards’ delivered to your love one’s doorstep is quite interesting, particularly in this season of love. Although seeing papers ‘talk’ could seem quite scary, letting your loved ones hear your voice through a card might be equal parts cool.

Considering that not many people have thought about embedding personalised audio messages into paper materials, Tunde believes Speaking Cards has a competitive edge.
