We all know about how Andela (which by the way I think sounds very feminine) is identifying high-potential developers on the African continent and shaping them into world class developers.

It would appear a similar initiative – SCI (School of Computational Intelligence) -- is now being driven to not just train and empower budding developers, but to also place them in the care companies with financial wherewithal to provide them continuous support.

The SCI Training Project is a program by Robotic Systems LLC aimed at building and developing interested and capable youth into professional developers all for free. The overall programme, which is targeted at students who are currently rounding off, or have rounded of their NYSC programs, would span for a period of 1 year, is split into three different training phases. The first is a beginner trainee phase for 3 months, where applicants can interface with their trainer on any area preferred area of specialization in web or mobile development. Training in the second phase – working trainee -- will have applicants focused more on solving real projects and writing test programmes of their choice for another 3 months. At the end of it, they will be placed in a company (depending on whether they scale the graduation test).

The final phase is the internship phase where the applicants are entitled to a stipend  ₦50,000 each month till the end of the programme, after which they can decide to whether to keep working with the company or not.

It’s no news that a lot of software developers in Nigeria are self taught, even the known ones that have managed to become gurus. Unfortunate for some, their skills do not get any form of recognition within the space that would define the extent of their works. This certainly is an opportunity for those budding developers who can channel opportunity into results.

Should you be interested in what the SCI Training Project has to offer, applications are currently open. The deadline for application is the 11th of April. Accepted applicants will be called for an interview and will also have access to a grant sum of  ₦360,000 which will be disbursed to them during the training period.
